RJ Balson are proud winners of Taste of the West Smoked Dry Cure Bacon award. All made from local free range pork, supplied by Childhay Manor. Our bacon is available at our local shop in Bridport.

Bridport Food Festival

BRIDPORT FOOD FESTIVAL is run by the Bridport Local Food Group, a committee of dedicated volunteers with the aim of supporting producers and promoting local food.

Since its launch by Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall in 2004, the Bridport Food Festival has blossomed to become a much loved fixture in Bridport’s food calendar.

The prestigious Taste of the West Awards is one of the most highly respected in the food and drink industry. Judging panels are made up of industry experts including chefs, food technologists, trade buyers and food writers.

The Best of Bacon award, sponsored by Waitrose, was won by our Home Cured Unsmoked Bacon.

We are hugely proud to have been presented with the award by chef Tim Maddams, during a ceremony held at the Eden Project.

Bacon Connoisseurs’ Week

A celebration of quality bacon cures and varieties for a nation of bacon lovers. The 2012 awards, called the Red, White and Bacon Awards were judged by an expert panel of judges including the editor of the Meat Trades Journal, Features Editor of the Grocer, a renowned Food Blogger as well as the week’s own Ladies in Pigs.

The GOLD AWARD was received for our home cured unsmoked bacon, whilst our smoked offering brought home the SILVER AWARD.

National Sausage week

R J Balson’s Spicy Pork and Toffee Apple sausage, created for fireworks night, reached the finals of the competition and was judged to be one of Britain’s “Most Legendary Bangers” by the panel of experts and guest judge Noddy Holder
